One of the best-kept secrets of the Pacific Northwest are the repositioning sailings that occur in the spring before the Alaska cruise season kicks off, and again in September and October as the ships that have headed “up north” return to the warmer climates of Australia, New Zealand and the Caribbean for the winter months. And one of the lines to offer the most Pacific Coastal sailings each year is none other than Seattle-based Holland America Line.

One sailing in particular is already going fast: the 4-day Pacific Coastal sailing operated onboard the venerable Statendam. Departing May 17, 2012, this Statendam sailing is noteworthy because it sails round-trip from Vancouver, British Columbia.

Calling on the picturesque city of Astoria, Oregon, the Statendam also sails to Victoria, British Columbia, famous for its Fairmont Empress Hotel, Butchart Gardens, and friendly, old English charm.  Guests can spend a full afternoon and evening in this quaint city before setting sail one last time, bound for Vancouver and its iconic Canada Place cruise ship terminal.

Although it may just be the beginning of January, staterooms aboard this quick four-day getaway are going fast, with only Oceanview and Verandah categories remaining.

It may be only four days, but a Pacific Coastal sailing can be amazingly enjoyable at any length.  After all, a cruise is a cruise!
