One year ago, I flew to Cape Town, South Africa for the very first time to board Silverseas elegant Silver Wind for a ten-day voyage around South Africa. The English language doesn’t contain enough words to accurately describe just how cool this “cruise-safari” was. In just over a week, I saw all of the so-called ‘Big Five Game’ in their natural habitats. We cruised throughout South Africa and Mozambique, calling on small ports like Richards Bay and larger, more cosmopolitan ones like Durban.

Of course, the cruise was also an excellent opportunity to experience the wonderful onboard product that I’ve come to love when sailing Silversea. There’s nothing else like it, and the experience has hooked me just like it continues to hook the line’s past guests. I’d sail a Silversea ship if it only did circles in the harbour – but I am glad they have some very unique itineraries!

South Africa was never on my bucket-list as a destination. Now, a year on, not a day goes by that I don’t think about this amazing voyage.
