Just days after we’ve stepped off  Silver Shadow in Alaska, ultra-luxury line Silversea has announced newly-designed uniforms created by prestigious Milan-based fashion school Istituto Europeo di Design (IED) will be rolled out for crew across the line’s eight-ship fleet.

The new uniforms, which were previewed recently in a fashion show held onboard the elegant Silver Wind when she was docked in Venice, represent the culmination of a project that dates back to the fall of 2012. A team from IED spent several days aboard Silversea’s flagship, the 540-guest Silver Spirit, drawing inspiration from the Art Deco décor that has become one of Silversea’s defining hallmarks.

Designing a new uniform, though, is hard work. Shipboard staff work in a variety of positions that each carry different job responsibilities and mobility requirements, and IED was tasked with creating variations of these new uniforms that would complement the crew working in different departments. Silversea’s existing uniforms use different colours, patterns and fabrics for Officers, and for crew in various positions including restaurant service, reception, international hostesses, lounges, and housekeeping.

“We’re delighted to showcase the talents of the up-and-coming fashion designers of IED,” said Cristina Levis, Silversea’s head of business development. “They have created stylish and comfortable uniforms that will be made in Italy and that effectively project the sophistication, professionalism, and graciousness of the ladies and gentlemen who represent our brand.”

Silversea’s new uniforms were designed by Antonio Pala, Alla Polozenko, Laura Liistro, and Magdalena Kilkovich. The project was coordinated by Francesca Tottoli, manager of special projects for IED Moda, and Professors Valentina Conzo and Alfonso Granieri.

The new uniforms will be rolled out over the course of several months. Earlier this year, Silversea also unveiled a new pre-cruise document package and a dedicated online cruise personalization system known as My Silversea.
