Ultra-luxury line Silversea announced last week that the company is bringing back an old friend into an expanded role. Barbara Muckermann has rejoined Silversea as the company’s chief marketing officer. Based out of the line’s Monaco office, she’ll report to Silversea’s chairman on brand initiatives, and company CEO Roberto Martinoli on operational matters. In the past, Muckermann spent four years as Silversea’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing and sales.

“Barbara has extensive company knowledge coupled with leadership experience and expertise in developing strategic marketing initiatives to increase global sales,” said Manfredi Lefebvre d’Ovidio, Silversea’s Chairman. “I’m thrilled that we were able to bring her back to Silversea.”

“We’re delighted to welcome Barbara back at a pivotal point in our company’s growth and evolution,” said CEO Roberto Martinoli. “Her background with Silversea and extensive experience in the industry will ensure she is able to effectively lead our marketing and communications efforts as we continue to expand our fleet with the launch of Silver Muse in the coming months.”

“I’m honored to be working once again with so many talented professionals in an environment that still feels like an extended family,” said Muckermann. “This is an exciting time for Silversea and I’m inspired by the opportunity to contribute to the company’s continued success.”

Why should the average cruiser care about this announcement? Primarily because it demonstrates that Silversea is actively recruiting the best talent in what is shaping up to be a very demanding, pivotal year for the company. This year alone, Silversea will take delivery of Silver Muse in the spring, and embark on the line’s largest refurbishment project in the history of the company this fall when Silver Cloud is turned into a full-fledged, ice-strengthened expedition ship.

With the debut of Silver Muse in April and the conversion of Silver Cloud into an expedition ship, Silversea’s fleet will include five “classic” luxury vessels and four dedicated luxury expedition ships. The expansion of the expedition fleet is key, as Silver Cloud Expedition’s debut will allow Silversea to offer luxury adventures to more corners of the globe, while allowing Silver Explorer which has traditionally cruised in Antarctica and the Arctic – to diversify her itineraries to include new explorations in the Pacific theatre for the 2018 cruise season, including new expedition voyages to Alaska, British Columbia, and Russia’s Far East.

With Muckermann returning to oversee the line’s marketing initiatives from Monaco, Silversea is demonstrating it is fully prepared for what should be one of the most successful chapters in the company’s 21-year history.
